Filmy, ktoré inšpirovali Petra Stricklanda
7. septembra 2013
Suspiria (Dario Argento, 1977)
The Equestrian Vortex film in Berberian Sound Studio lifts heavily from Suspiria. Argento’s film feels more like a rock opera than a horror film. The Goblin score works best played at maximum volume. Pure sensory overload.
Black Sunday (La maschera del demonio, Mario Bava, 1960)
More Gothic horror than giallo, even though Bava made one of the first giallos with Blood and Black Lace. Black Sunday was another influence on The Equestrian Vortex.
The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (L’uccello dalle piume di cristallo, Dario Argento, 1970)
Probably the most famous giallo. I asked Suzy Kendall from The Bird with the Crystal Plumage to contribute screams to Berberian Sound Studio. Argento’s film excels in Vittorio Storaro’s cinematography and Ennio Morricone’s wonderfully creepy score.
Death Laid an Egg (La morte ha fatto l’uovo, Giulio Questi, 1968)
A bizarre cocktail of art-pop, avant-garde and giallo. Bruno Maderna takes a break from studio work with Luigi Nono and Luciano Berio to contribute a suitably searing soundtrack.
Le Orme (Luigi Bazzoni, 1975)
This is quite an unusual giallo. It’s very low on tension and murder, instead focusing on a highly evocative atmosphere of loneliness and melancholy. The soundtrack by Nicola Piovani is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever made for a ‚horror‘ film.
