The international film festival Cinematik is entering its 20th anniversary edition. For two decades, it has brought the best of Slovak and world cinema to Piešťany. Since its inception in 2006, it has screened over 2000 films and has become one of the most important film events in Slovakia.
The grand opening will take place on 10 September and the ceremony will include the Slovak premiere of the film Father directed by Tereza Nvotová, who will be accompanied by a large delegation of creators. The much-anticipated drama will be screened in the largest cinema hall in Slovakia, at the House of Arts.
Right from the start, the festival will also bring a novelty: for the first time, an award will be presented. Cinematik Talent Award. Its inaugural laureates will be actor Milan Ondrík an actress Dominika Morávková, prominent figures of the young generation of Slovak cinema.
The festival's opening will also have an international reach. It is on the Cinematik stage that the name of the Slovak title will be announced, which will become the official candidate for Oscara® in the category of Best International Feature Film.
„The twentieth edition is a milestone for us. We want not only to take stock but also to bring new impetus. That's also why the Cinematik Talent Award was established, which aims to highlight exceptional personalities on our film scene.“ said the festival's artistic director Vladimír Štric.
For six days, from 10 to 15 September, Cinematik Festival will offer almost a hundred films, discussions, concerts, and accompanying and industry events. Piešťany will thus once again become the Slovak capital of film for a week. „We've prepared one of the best programmes in the history of the festival.
