The Peasants

DK Welchman, Hugh Welchman

After the worldwide success of the film Loving Vincent, the director duo DK Welchman and Hugh Welchman have now turned their attention to one of the most significant works of Polish literature—The Peasants. This novel earned its author, W. S. Reymont, a Nobel Prize. The central character of the story is the beautiful Jagna, a poor girl who catches the eye of an old and wealthy farmer, Boryna. Despite his family’s protests, he marries her. However, Jagna faces a dilemma: whether a contented life or her love for Antek, Boryna’s son, is more important to her. Unfortunately, in a land bound by tradition, love is not given priority.
