Our Lovely Pig Slaughter

A family gathering like no other! This describes the annual pig slaughter that takes place in a cottage in a remote village in the equally remote Osoblažsko region. It’s the only day of the year when the entire family comes together to vent their frustrations, feast, drink, and simply live. However, this year is different. Throughout such a day, the resilience of familial bonds is tested, revealing the strength and fragility of relationships shaped by tradition, love, and injustice. This is one of the finest Czecho-Slovak films of the year and an extraordinary debut by director and screenwriter Adam Martinec, whose humor and sharp societal analysis echo the high-quality works of the Czechoslovak New Wave.
