Bob Marley: One Love

Reinaldo Marcus Green

The film Bob Marley: One Love captures the most fascinating part of the life of one of the greatest music icons of the 20th century. It celebrates a man who loved freedom, Jamaica, and above all, reggae music. At the beginning of the film, we meet the titular hero (Kingsley Ben-Adir) at a time when he is already a Jamaican national hero. As an eternal idealist and tireless promoter of his native island, he is tormented by the pervasive violence fueled by two rival political factions and their associated criminal gangs. Marley, somewhat naively, dreams of organizing a massive concert that would bring together all the current enemies on one stage and, with the help of his music, force them to bury the hatchet. But before this dream can be realized, violence knocks on his door.
